I'm very interested in your project. I think I've tracked down David Storr's "Channel for the Light."
ReplyDeleteI would love to know more.
You do? May you share it with me, kind sir? I don't have that, and I want this to be a group effort! I'm going to post all of the Valley of the sun things I have soon. Thanks in advance.
DeleteI have it on order. How do you suggest I share it with you when it arrives?
DeleteHappy to help. It's a good project.
Rip it from cassette or CD and post it on mediafire as a download.
DeleteMore people need to hear this music. I just tracked down the mp3s to "Key West Afternoon" so I'll be posting it up
Will do! I have several others that you are looking for as well. I'll try to pull those.
ReplyDeleteWhich ones do you have that I want? Any by Slap, Upper Astral, or Naegele?
Delete(Robert Slap, Upper Astral, and David Naegele are my top 3 favorite Valley of The Sun artists)
By the way, Robert Slap "Atlantis - Healing Temple" is still available directly from Valley of the Sun on compact disc. You can order it here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.prohypcd.com/html/music.html
Thanks, once I have the money to spare I'll buy it.
DeleteYou can also add to the WANT list:
ReplyDeleteKarl Schaffner - Journey to a Far Land

Were those released under Valley of The Sun?

Malcolm Stern- Chakra Dance
Upper Astral-upper Astral
Also I'm missing Robin Miller's "In My Heart"

ReplyDelete^Upper Astral had a Self Titled Release?
ReplyDeleteI think it's just the "Upper Astral Suite" cassette. I believe this is their full discography:
ReplyDeleteUpper Astral Suite (Valley Of The Sun, 1981)
Crystal Cave (Valley Of The Sun, 1982)
Skybirds (Valley Of The Sun, 1982)
Entrance To The Secret Lagoon (Valley Of The Sun, 1983)
Journey To The Edge Of The Universe (Valley Of The Sun, 1983)
Higher-Self Rendesvouz (Valley Of The Sun, 198#)
Astral Massage (Valley Of The Sun, 1987)
I figured it was.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Can I have permission to put Upper Astral Suite up on here? I will give you credit since you're such a huge help.
Sure. No need for credit though.
ReplyDeleteOk.
DeleteGreat posts. It's wonderful to hear some of this stuff! I can't wait for Dreamscapes and Manifestation of the Pyramids!
ReplyDeleteNext, I'll try to get Upper Astral's "Entrance to the Secret Lagoon." Then we can look at the others (Slap, Schaffner, Storrs, ad Naegele).
Entrance To The Secret Lagoon is one I'm really looking forward to hearing. The name itsself makes me think of awesome ambient music.
DeleteTell me when you got channel For The Light up and ready.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
ReplyDeleteTry posting up the David Storrs album you have, I've yet to hear any songs by him.
The David Storrs is still on order. It may take awhile. I'll let you know.
ReplyDeleteOk. Do you have any more releases you can share?
DeleteI have these right now:
ReplyDeleteKarl Shaffner - White Dove
Robin Miller - From My Heart
Robert Slap - Drive
Several on the way, including Robert Slap "East of West," Karl Schaffner "Many Lives Ago," and possibly a few others.
Can you get "Drive" uploaded first?
ReplyDeleteAlso, try finding "In The caverns of your mind" or "search for utopia"
DeleteI'd do some cassette searching myself, but I'm gonna stick with CDs since my tape deck has long since broken and I have no way of ripping cassettes currently.

ReplyDeleteAwesome! Thank you so much!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much! What's next?
ReplyDeleteFor a great listing of Valley of the Sun releases, look here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.discogs.com/label/Valley+Of+The+Sun
I saw that. Did you get/rip/upload any more of em?
ReplyDeleteBTW "Many Lives Ago" is up now.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the slow replies. Work is busy.
ReplyDeleteBad news. No David Storrs. I had it on order and they finally notified me that it was out of stock. So, no "Channel for the Light" though I'm still looking.
Still several tapes to go here.
Next up: Robert Slap "Mystic Memories"
Mystic memories? Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI am SO looking forward to these Robert Slap releases!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much. What releases are next?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete^That one is the one with the Whale calls in it, right?
ReplyDeleteRight! And Suzanne Ghiglia on flute with Robert Slap's atmospheres.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice. I'll upload it soon. What's next?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Robin Miller "From My Heart"?
ReplyDeleteAlright!
ReplyDeleteHave any more Naegele, Upper Astral, Slap, or Steven Cooper yet?
Not yet. I have some Steven Cooper on the way. Maybe in the next few days. Waiting on the shipment.
ReplyDeleteOk, what are the names of some of the releases you're getting?
ReplyDeleteRobin Miller "From My Heart"
ReplyDeletehttps://rapidshare.com/files/392044705/robin_miller_-_from_my_heart.rar
Awesome. Haven't heard any Miller yet!
ReplyDeleteBTW Don't bother getting "The Ascension To The All That Is", I have that. I'll post it up when I find it on my computer.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThese will be coming in the next few weeks:
ReplyDeleteNatopus "Transition"
AM127 TRANSCENDENCE Cass
AM134 SEDONA Cass
AM142 WHEN I BECOME THE WIND Cass
AM145 CELESTIAL BRIDGE Cass
AM147 SOULMATE SUITE Cass
Oh, awesome! Who is "Sedona" by? Because there's another release of a similar title by Robert Slap.
ReplyDeleteCorrect. It's the Robert Slap soundtrack.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I have one more Robert Slap on the way, "East of West."
ReplyDeleteAWESOMENESS!
ReplyDeleteDownloading the Lescaut album now to put on here. By the way, I think I should credit you now. You've helped so much with this blog.
I still am looking forward to hearing "Search for Utopia" or "In The Caverns of Your Mind", if either of us ever find it
Thanks but I don't really care about credit. My reward is you helping me find some of the things I can't find. So, we're even as I see it.
ReplyDeleteI'm desperately looking for "Search for Utopia" and "In The Caverns of Your Mind". If you ever find it for sale somewhere and want me to grab it, I'm happy to.
Alright! I'm still looking for stuff myself.
ReplyDeleteBTW Did you download Many Lives Ago? It's a great album.
I love "Many Lives Ago." I did grab it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm also desperately looking for Karl Schaffner "Journey to a Far Land." That one actually came out on cd.
You are? I'll try looking around.
ReplyDeletehttp://archive.org/details/iuma-schaffner_karl I found this internet archive thing that has some info on it..
^The above link has a download of one of the songs from Journey to a Far land. You have to download the MP3 or it won't work.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I was able to grab that. Much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI also found all of his albums for download here:
http://yantradeck.com/music.html
But it seems that the links don't really work. You add digital downloads to your cart but it starts charging you crazy amounts for shipping. For a digital download? Odd. I sent them an email but no response.
I think I've seen this site before. If it's charging that much money, I wouldn't trust it.
DeleteI also have Upper Astral's "Crystal Cave" now. I had lost the files on my computer but uncovered them yesterday after searching.
ReplyDeleteSweet!
ReplyDeleteHere's an interesting challenge. I found the Valley of the Sun release "Transition" by Natopus streaming online. It's really lovely. Here's the link:
http://www.bigmusic.org/natopus
It has buttons for free download but I can't seem to get them to work. Do you have ideas?
Cool! Didn't you say you bought the Natopus album though?
ReplyDeleteI did. But now they are acting like it's out of stock. Weird.
ReplyDeleteI'm making an account on BigMusic to see if it lets me download the album.
DeleteGood idea. I didn't think of that.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't work. Sorry.

ReplyDeleteGreat stuff.
ReplyDeleteReplay Media Catcher is a great piece of software for grabbing streaming media.

DeleteIt seems like some Storrs albums are for sale here.
Cool. I might have to get that.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, what releases are you uploading next?

ReplyDeleteI was looking forward to this one!
DeleteI've checked with Altered States and it seems that all of their David Storrs is out of stock. But feel free to message them. Maybe they've found more?

ReplyDeleteMore cooper! Awesome.

ReplyDeleteAwesome. I'll download this right away.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting. Did you download "Ascention to The All That is" Yet? It's my favorite track.
DeleteI did some digging on this one. Why is "Gloria" singing like a man. Well, that's B.J. Thomas, her husband, who was a big country/rock pop star in the 1970s. The songs are written by her and sung by him.
DeleteVery NOT like any of the other Valley of the Sun recordings. Much more mainstream. Even blues/country.
I listened to it. Definitely not my style of music but I'll put it up reguardless.
DeleteYes. Indeed. My favorite Robert Slap recording!
ReplyDeleteNext up, his "East of West".
Not my cup of tea either but it's great to have a record that Valley of the Sun ventured outside of the space/new age/electronic realm.
ReplyDeleteMore on the way.
Alright. What releases are on the way? Besides east of west?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Any more Slap releases on the way? Or possibly Storrs/cooper/or naegele?
DeleteComing soon...
ReplyDeleteUpper Astral "Crystal Cave"
Robert Slap "Gregorian Chant"
Sorry...no Storrs/Cooper/Naegele in sight I'm afraid.
ok.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Truth be told, I couldn't find my MP3s of this album.
DeleteHappy to help.
ReplyDeleteI'm away for the next two weeks for vacation. I should have some more stuff by then.
Take care.

DeleteAwesome, but don't I already have David Naegele's Dreamscapes up here?
DeleteThis one is a higher bit rate...if that matters.
ReplyDeleteAlright. Did you read about the MusicalSounds of relaxation series?
DeleteI did! Thanks. Slowly catching up. Jet lag. But I've ordered a couple of them and should have them soon. I'm very curious. I'm amazed that you found those. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteThank the library. I found it on a book search called ALISCAT. Turns out that a library in a town not too far from me had the Tranquilities CD. I remember emailing the company and they said a series of them were put out.
DeleteBTW the Inner Vistas album won't download.
I'll upload it again.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteOk thanks.
DeleteI'll still try to buy Zen Morning, Atlantis healing temple and some of the other Schaffner ones.
It still isn't working.
ReplyDeleteI'm renaming the file. Maybe it doesn't like the ampersand symbol? Sorry. Try again.
ReplyDeleteOk
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteGot it, thanks.
DeleteAre you not able to get the Gentle Wind and Rain? Just checking.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a nice release. Not as dull as it sounds. No idea who is behind it or why they wanted to call themselves "Gentle Wind and Rain".
Nah, I got it. I was just a bit too lazy to put it up, but I'm doing it now.
DeleteIf you ask me, "Inner Vistas" sounds like a better group name.
i might have a couple of the tapes on your list. i need to check my collection.
ReplyDeleteOk, thanks.
DeleteBy the way, I'm sorry I didn't credit you where it was due before. I'll make sure to give you credit next time.
no problem. we are all in this together. its good practice to quote your sources.
ReplyDeleteits not easy work tracking down these tapes and digitizing them and everything.
ill look to see if i have any more on your list here.
OK. The unfortunate thing is that I currently have no working cassette player or way to digitize cassettes, I only have ways of digitizing vinyl and (obviously) ripping CDs. That combined with the lack of money I have makes it difficult, but I post things up whenever I can and whenever people help.
DeleteI'm set up to digitize cassettes and would happily do so if need be. Of course, it's asking a lot to trust somebody you don't know. Just thought I would offer.
ReplyDeleteHappydogs, if I ever get ahold of any cassettes I need digitizing I'll send it to you, but could you post up Dreamscapes at the higher bit rate again?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteBTW Which releases are coming next?
PS- I'm probably gonna purchase a Karl Schaffner CD this week
I hope it's "Journey to a Far Land." I'm missing that one. I have Birds of Passage, White Dove, and Many Lives Ago. IF you are looking for those.
ReplyDeleteNext up: Robert Slap "Nightwinds"
Oh, sorry. I was gonna purchase Birds of Passage. but I did find "Zen Morning" so maybe I'll buy that instead (That's Robert Slap)
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Glad to see another Musical Sounds of Relaxation release. I don't know how many there are, but I think I had discovered names of about 7 of them or so.
Deletehttp://www.amazon.com/Aquamarine/dp/1555692966
DeleteBTW Someone has Aquamarine for sale, If you wanna try and rip it for a better quality rip you can but I just assume not do it since I have it up in decent quality already.
Zen Morning sounds lovely! Here comes Birds of Passage!
ReplyDeleteOk. I'll buy Zen Morning soon.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI also picked up "Mystic Harp: Musical Sounds of Relaxation." It's not a Robert Slap piece. It's by Carol Emanuel.
ReplyDeleteOk. I purchased Zen Morning yesterday.
DeleteI know you said you had Atlantis Healing Temple and White Dove. Any chance you can share those?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHi there...
ReplyDeleteI have a cassette tape that was my mothers but somehow over the years it found its way into my things. I love the music and listen to it from time to time. I do not have all the specifics as I only have a cassette with no case. It is Upper Astral and is copyright 1985. The title of cassette is Finding Your SoulMate and is a subliminal tape. I looked through and did not see it in your collection although I may have missed it. I converted the tape to MP3s a few years back at a 320 bit rate. If you are interested in hearing the tape, let me know.
I do NOT have that, nor have I heard of it! I would love if you could share them!
DeleteYeah... I looked everywhere on the net trying to find a CD version but no luck. This is how I came to find your site. The cassette itself looks like the cassettes you have as the background and does not give much info and do not know who wrote it except that it was published through Upper Astral. What is the best way to get them to you? I could upload them to the binary newsgroups as I have access to newsgroups but most people don't use the newsgroups and I have never uploaded anything with websites.
ReplyDeleteJoseph
I have access to newsgroups. If that's most comfortable for you, I can grab them there and get them to Serveaux.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear it. Thanks, Joseph.
Well I usually download and havent uploaded in awhile and I seem to be having issues. lol In fact I saw your post to the newsgroups 40 days ago and even downloaded them. So, I have signed up with the mediafire site and uploading the tracks there right now. Once they are uploaded do I need to do anything to make them available for anyone
DeleteJ
When they've finished uploading, click on the file. You'll see the file's url address in the little window above it. Just copy that address and paste it here in the blog. That should do it!
ReplyDeleteOK. Here are 2 links for the 2 tracks. I also put some Par files up if anyone needs any.
Deletehttp://www.mediafire.com/download.php?cd6w5o8fcdjscd4
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?gwkw2egl48knf9m
Hope everyone enjoys them. I especially like side 1
Joseph
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mdyfwp3a37t7pbj
DeleteThats a par just in case and to verify the files are intact.
J
Happydogs, do you currently have anything else to upload?
DeleteWorked like a charm. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFun stuff.
Glad to hear that it worked. Adds to the collection (I will look for the tape and scan it and upload it; I attached a pic to the mp3 but it was only to remind me that it was from Upper Astral!) I have been stuck on Chris Spheeris & George Skaroulis - Adagio from 2001 today.
DeleteJ
Downloading the files now. Thank you for this tape that I have never heard of until today. I will credit you on the post if you would like me to Joseph.
DeleteThank you... For creating this space to hold long forgotten little gems to lose your self for a moment in places eternal. With the tape I provided, it always left me wondering about my soulmate... Just what was the subliminal message? Does she need to hear it too? I have listened to the tape quite a number of times over the years if that is any indicator as to its effectiveness. lol :P And yes, it has been a pleasure to provide another piece to the whole :) And Enjoy!
DeleteJoseph
I figured nobody else was appreciating the work of this company as I, so I made the blog because I wanted to hear more and help others discover the beauty and serenity of these tapes.
DeleteSide 2 of the Upper astral tape you sent me is my favorite out of the two. Scan in the tape cover and back cover when you can.
Would you believe a 17 year old is running this blog, sir?
I think I would have to say, Right On! And Wow! How long have you been listening to the genre? I started back in the early 80's with Vangelis and was a few years younger than you are now. Haven't stopped listening since and always and forever listening for new sounds to pull on my heart strings. Wow! That is so cool to see another mind so young and inspired by such awesome music as well as your other interest in art and animation and music. By your age I was using a Commodore Amiga computer to create animations. I actually used an emulator earlier this evening to pull up a couple of pieces from a series I called Moments Through The Window of Eternity I did from back in the early 80s. I wanted to show a friend, who is deciding whether she wants to treat a brain tumor or to move into the great unknown, some of my early computer attempts at drawing and animating.
DeleteSo I had to listen to side 2 because I liked side 1 but I think to be fair, I have always listened to the tape in a continuous mode over and over until I decided to move on. So there was really just one side. I never stopped the tape at the end of side 1 to repeat it over. :) Editing out the introduction on side one enhances the musical experience 100 fold.
I will do my best on getting the cover art. I am going to talk to my mother tomorrow and see if she has the case. I do not. Only the tape itself. It is tape 2 and she may have tape 1 as well.
I wanted to add that reading your brief initial profile cover info was like reading myself except for the putting this blog together. Paranoid about everything! lol I would add one more thing to make it complete, for me... Loner Extraordinaire! :) lol I don't blog or post. This indeed has been a very rare treat for me; to feel like you ran into yourself, and running into people is something paranoia is good at keeping me from doing.
Would you believe I am 45?
I'll think of you as 8 (1+7=) lol
And you can think of me as 9 (4+5=)
That way I don't feel so old.
It's nearing midnight here and heavy has been my heart today. World so needs Love right now to shower down upon us all.
Again, thank you and I look forward to seeing what you will bring next and if I can bring more I surely will.
Never stop reaching for what your heart desires and knows to be true and just for all. Every one needs to find this place in time and space. Now! More than ever!
And lastly... If you build it, they will come.
Till next time.
Joseph
Wow, That's all very interesting Joseph. And Myself, when I started getting into synth music It started with lots of unknown artists, very obscure ones like Timerider. Then I got into Vangelis, Laserdance, Koto, and others and it sort of escalated from there.
DeleteI invite you to download some of the music on this page. I think you will like it, and it's perfect for relaxation and meditation, as well as yoga. My favorite Upper Astral releases are Skybirds, Entrance To The Secret Lagoon, and Journey to the edge of the universe, so I suggest you start with those ones and then listen to more.

ReplyDeleteAwesome, I downloaded this and Gayatri. Do you have any more Musical Sounds of Relaxation?

ReplyDeleteThanks! I'll download it in a little bit. What releases will be coming next?
DeleteBTW Someone on amazon was selling "Aquamarine", maybe you can get a better quality rip? I think the quality of the one I have already is ok, but it's up to you.

ReplyDeleteQuestion of the day. Listen to this:
ReplyDeletehttps://rapidshare.com/files/3014273739/Robert%20Slap%20(maybe)%20-%20Visions%20Of%20A%20New%20Age.rar
Do we think this is Robert Slap?
1. It's on the Madacy label from Canada, the same folks that released "the mystic sea" and other Robert Slap stuff.
2. It sounds much like other Slap nature recordings.
3. It contains "Tranquilities" (is this the same recordings?)
Your thoughts?
I will listen to it. By the way, one of the tracks on Desert Oasis is a wav file, and I can't add it to mediafire because it's too big... I no longer have the program I use to convert audio so I'll need you to send me the MP3.
DeleteAlso, upon listening, I can confirm that the track "Tranquilities" is by Robert Slap, on the Tranquilities CD it is called "Peaceful I Haven" and it's a few minutes shorter. The extra minutes on Tranquilities is most likely some of the music from the song "Clouds", which is actually part of "Journeys Out Of Body" By David Naegele. I'll double check to clarify this.
DeleteWhispers is really nice. You know the sound when you hear really fast quick notes going from low, to high, then back to low? I can't describe it well, but lots of these Valley of the sun recordings have it.
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
Delete"Ocean Echoes" is actually part of one of the tracks on "You Are The Sea.
DeleteThat's all very helpful.
ReplyDeleteSo, tracks 1 and 4 are definitely Robert Slap. The other two tracks clearly sound like his music as well.
You would think they would at least list him on the credits SOMEWHERE. Odd.

ReplyDeleteThanks! I'll get these uploaded when I have the chance. I'm not usually a fan of nature recordings with no music in them but I found this one and Nightbirds to be relaxing.
DeleteThey are nice recordings. But not something I tend to want to just sit down and listen to. You're right.

DeleteYou never cease to amaze me, Happydogs.
DeleteThanks for this, this was one of the ones I was really looking forward to. And based on my judgement by the title, it's gonna be great. Each time I come accross one with a title or album cover art I really like, I always end up loving the music, sucha s Ascention to the all that is, Nightshades, Entrance To The Secret Lagoon and such.
Looking forward to more. I'm gonna keep looking as well. I've been researching that ultimate new age collection.

ReplyDeleteI have reason to believe that "Winterscapes" is "Snow Dreams" from Musical Sounds of Relaxation.
DeleteAfter listening, here is what I found:
DeleteI Am the Sea is You Are the Sea
Shades of Blue= Aquamarine
Oriental Gardens= Oriental Gardens
Good sleuth work, Serveaux! It's great to know that these all made it to cd at some point.
ReplyDeleteI'll upload in the caverns of your mind tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeleteI have some more stuff to load up but I see you haven't posted the others yet. I don't want to create a backlog for you.
ReplyDeleteI really only have 2 to post, since "Winterscapes" is "Snow Dreams" which is the only one from the ultimate new age collection I don't have. If you want to post them now, you can, I'm going to start uploading Snow Dreams/Winterscapes now.
DeleteCool. Also "In the Caverns of Your Mind"? I didn't see that one either.
ReplyDeleteNext up. More David Storrs.
Yes, that's why I said 2, one is snow dreams, the other is Caverns of your mind.
